YSR Shocking Death

Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (8 July 1949 – 2 September 2009), popularly known as YSR, was the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He represented the Indian National Congress party. He was elected to the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Lok Sabha from the Kadapa constituency for four terms and to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for five terms from the Pulivendula constituency. In 2003 he undertook a three month long paadayaatra, or walking tour, across several districts in Andhra Pradesh. He led his party to victory in the next general and assembly elections held in 2004. On September 2, 2009 a helicopter carrying YSR went missing in the Nallamala forest area. On the morning of 3 September, 2009, media agencies reported that the helicopter had been found crashed on top of Rudrakonda Hill, 40 nautical miles from Kurnool. This was later confirmed by the Prime Minister’s office and all five persons aboard were pronounced dead at the scene.

Death :

The Andhra Pradesh state Chief Minister and four others were killed when their helicopter crashed Wednesday in a jungle amid heavy rain.

It took rescue teams a day to reach the remote crash site.

Mourners filed past Reddy’s body on the field of a sports stadium, where it was brought after a slow procession through the streets of the state capital, Hyderabad.

Many in the crowd sobbed and pushed to get near the coffin.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and ruling Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi placed wreaths on the coffin before the procession.

Reddy’s body will be taken to his hometown of Pulivendula for burial. Government offices and private businesses were closed in the state for the funeral and flags were flown at half mast.

Reddy was travelling to rural areas to examine infrastructure projects when the helicopter he was travelling in came down. Officials have said the crash is believed to be an accident, despite the presence of rebel groups in the area.

Icc awards announced, Dhoni dominates the List

dhonitrophy_325 Indian captain MS Dhoni was nominated in three categories for the ICC Awards 2009 announced here on Wednesday.

Dhoni was nominated for Cricketer of the year, Test player of the year and ODI player of the year.

Team mates Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh have also been nominated for Cricketer of the year awards. Their names also feature in the list of Test player of the year along with that of VVS Laxman.

Yuvraj Singh and Virendra Sehwag find their names in the ODI player of the year list, while Amit Mishra has been nominated for Emerging player of the year and pacer Zaheer Khan finds a place in the Twenty20 internatonal performance of the year.

In the Women’s category, Mithali Raj was nominated for the Women’s cricketer of the year.

Sachin still Passionate

Sachin Tendulkar today said he made a conscious effort to blend Sunil Gavaskar’s defence with Viv Richards’ ruthlessness to evolve a batting style of his own.

Since his 1989 debut against Pakistan, Tendulkar has been lording it over the bowlers, who continue to struggle to breach his near-impregnable defence, and often find themselves at the receiving end of his aggressive hitting.

Tendulkar revealed he modelled his batting style on Gavaskar and Richards, two players he idolised.

“Sunil Gavaskar, needless to say, and Vivian Richards are the batsmen that really inspired me,” said the champion batsman with more than 29,000 international runs under his belt.

“I wanted to be as solid as Sunil Gavaskar and as destructive as Vivian Richards, because that combination was always going to be lethal. I felt truly inspired by these two individuals on the field,” Tendulkar told CNN-IBN channel.

Over the last two decades, Tendulkar’s appetite for runs never waned and the Mumbaikar said he never ran out of motivation.

“I don’t need anyone to come to me or motivate me or prepare me before a big game,” Tendulkar said.

“I’ve always been motivated and I love this sport. I grew up loving this sport and as each day goes by, I fall in love with this game more and more.

“The desire to go out there and win matches for my nation is growing, and it continues to grow. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to play for 20 years and I’m still motivated, and I still want to go out there and do better,” he said.

Despite his iconic status, Tendulkar remains a team man and he underlined the importance of working as a unit.

“Team work for me is practicing together and also trying to get the best out of each other. That can only happen if you go out of your way to help your team-mate. You must be prepared to sacrifice for your team-mate, which will eventually end up giving a positive result for your team,” he said.
